LATCH Benefits from Inspiring Secondary School Pupils and First Give Programme

Published: August 8th, 2017 in Past events

First Give work in partnership with secondary schools across the UK to help young people to give their time, tenacity and talents to improve their local communities.

Their vision is to help build a new generation of motivated and switched-on young people who want to use their skills to support local charities and improve the lives of others in their communities.

Over eight lessons, the First Give programme encourages an entire year group of students to identify social issues in their area and engage with local charities that address them.

As well as providing lesson plans and resources including PowerPoints, course books and a presentation skills workshop, First Give help host the School Final in order to further engage and inspire students. Presentations are five minutes long and the judges mark each team on their knowledge, creativity and delivery. The three winning teams win a total of £1,500 for their charities (£1,000, £250 and £250).

We were thrilled to hear that Radyr Comprehensive School, Heolddu Comprehensive School, Bargoed, and Islwyn High School, Caerphilly, nominated LATCH as their chosen charity this year, and we received a number of calls and emails from teachers and students so that they could gain information on our support for children and their families in order to prepare for their School Finals. Each time we were impressed by the confidence and passion of the students.

LATCH has benefitted from £4,500 thanks to this inspiring programme and we’d like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the students, teachers and the team at First Give for their support for us and the many other deserving charities in our communities.
