LATCH held its second Ambassador Event at the Premier Inn, Cardiff North, back in June, with a huge turnout of people who had expressed an interest in becoming a LATCH Community Ambassador.
The audience was made up of a broad range of supporters, many of whom had one thing in common – they’d all received support from LATCH, either as a child or as a parent.
Skye Edgecombe, aged fifteen from Landore, Swansea, attended the event along with her dad, as she and her family are currently being supported by LATCH. Skye is keen to give back and to help ensure LATCH’s support services continue for many years to come, and we’re thrilled to share that she has become a Young Community Ambassador.
Skye began treatment for leukaemia in November 2016, and has taken part in a number of fundraising events for us since her diagnosis. In the summer of 2017, Skye’s grandmother nominated LATCH as her weekly quiz’s chosen charity which helped to raise £500. Skye gave an emotional speech to the attendees on our behalf and we were all incredibly touched at the time. In the following months, Skye took part in the Swansea 1K despite still undergoing treatment, and she has her eyes on an even longer distance this year!
Skye commented: “It’s such an honour to become a Youth Ambassador for a charity that I feel so passionate about. Even before these events, I’ve wanted to do more to spread awareness about the work LATCH carry out.”
She continued: “Living with cancer or a tumour is hard and can leave you feeling very lonely and the LATCH team are amazing, bringing so many highlights during tough times and much needed moral support to patients and families just like mine. They have done so much for us and I hope to use this role to support them in any way I can to make sure they’re able to help other families with cancer or leukaemia when they need it the most.”
