‘Emyr Owen’ Porthcawl & District branch
Managed by: Kevin, Sandra and Huw Owen
In 2008 our little boy, Emyr, was diagnosed with cancer and throughout his illness we as a family were supported by LATCH. Since Emyr’s death in 2009 we have opened a local branch to support LATCH in their devoted work.
We are extremely committed as a family:
- To promote LATCH
- To fundraise
- To encourage and support others in their fundraising
We are a very active branch, holding many events, including an annual ball and auction.
As well as money raised from these events we have raised over £35,000 for LATCH from the sales of Emyr’s book Pigs in Space. This is a lovely short story about 2 pigs and their adventures. The book is available from LATCH office and by contacting ourselves on the details below. It is our aim to reach sales of £50,000 and we would be most grateful for your support in achieving this sum.
We know spending time together and making precious memories is invaluable. This supported the idea of purchasing Emyr’s Karavan4theKidz in Porthcawl. With the amazing support of the community we purchased the first caravan & gave it to Latch so Children & their families could have respite during treatments and also for bereaved families. Due to the demand we also purchased Emyr’s Karavan4theKidz 2. Again the community support was amazing and Paul, Christian, Kev, Huw & I are extremely grateful.
We didn’t want to stop there as we recognised there is so much more we can do to support Children diagnosed with Cancer.
Velindre treat many Children and although it’s a fantastic Hospital with great staff the environment is not child friendly. After contacting Staff in Velindre they were absolutely delighted that we have offered to buy essential equipment to make the experience in Velindre less frightening.
We are extremely grateful for all the support that the branch has had, including the continued from Ryan Jones and Jon Humphries of the Ospreys.
Please contact us if we can offer advice and support.
