St Davids Polo Club is the only organiser of international polo in Wales and this year they offer Wales v South America at Fonmon Castle on Sunday 24 June 2012.  St Davids Polo have adopted LATCH as their chosen charity and will be holding an auction and a raffle on the day to raise funds for LATCH.

The event is a fantastic and glamorous social occasion and will be covered by all the leading lifestyle publications in the area.

Kay and fellow Vale Torchbearers meet local MP

Kay Richmond recently met up with other Vale Torchbearers when an invitation was received from local Vale MP, Alan Cairns.  Mr Cairns was keen to wish all the Vale Olympic Flame Torchbearers well and personally congratulate them on being nominated and chosen for such a special task, as they each take it in turns to carry the Flame through the Vale on Saturday 26 May.

The process was long and arduous and involved a lot of secrecy within the Department!!  Kay initially thought it was a joke when she first heard the news until she received written confirmation from Lloyds TSB, one of the Games major sponsors, that she had indeed been chosen as one of the official torchbearers.

Kay has raised thousands of pounds over the years for LATCH and is a true ambassador for the charity.  Kay will be running 300 metres (or possibly walking and waving to the crowds hoping to make the most of the moment) on Saturday 26 May in the Vale of Glamorgan.

Children on Sky Ward had a treat on Wednesday 28 March when Welsh Rugby Star George North came by to visit.

Wales International and Scarlets player George was making his first visit to the Ward as he was recently appointed as an ambassador for LATCH and spent over two hours with the children currently being treated at the hospital in a bid to raise awareness of the vital work carried out by LATCH. 

During his visit, George met children, parents and nurses on Sky Ward, and also spent time with the children practising their rugby skills in the play room   During his visit, George signed some rugby balls and these were presented to the children.  George admitted that he was “touched and inspired” by the work being done at the hospital and that he was delighted to be involved with LATCH because it is such a great cause.

More than 330 Easter eggs have been donated to LATCH by kind hearted employees from Arriva Trains Wales.

Smiles were brought to the faces of youngsters as the eggs were delivered to children attending daily clinics on Space Ward and also those currently receiving treatment on Sky Ward.  In addition to the eggs, Arriva Trains employees, Mark Davies and Jim Bence based at Carmarthen presented LATCH with £221 which they raised when performing with their band at a colleagues wedding recently.

We would also like to say a Big Thank You to Charlie Gribble, who has been a LATCH supporter for many years and brings selection boxes and Easter eggs to the hospital every year.

An ’Eggstra’ treat came from the staff at BMW Sytner who brought in over 100 Easter eggs and ‘Me to You’ teddies which proved a hit with all the children on the ward. 

Lloyds TSB staff also donated over 100 Easter eggs to the children on Space and Sky Wards and we would like to thank them all for thinking of the children and their families. 

Following the introduction of the 5 pence single-use carrier bag charge, lots of companies big and small are generously donating the money raised to LATCH. 

Toys “R” Us have made a donation of £525.90 for the carrier bags bought from their stores in Cardiff and Swansea since October when the charge was brought in!  Thank you Toys “R” Us for supporting LATCH.

On Monday, 26 March, Sophie Evans star of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s the Wizard of Oz, made a special appearance on Sky Ward after hearing about the work LATCH undertakes to support these special children and their families.

Sophie spent over an hour talking to the young patients and their families on Sky Ward, many of whom had followed Sophie’s road to stardom over the last few years.  In particular Sophie chatted to Charlotte Bragg, aged 7 from Gorseinon in Swansea.  Charlotte has already met Sophie on a trip to see her at the World Famous London Palladium and was delighted to meet her again.

Admission is £5 for adults which includes tea and cream scone.  Children’s admission is free.  There will be various stalls including cakes, tombola, cake decorating demonstrations and more.  Also free entertainment for the children including bouncy castles and face painting.
