Donate to LATCH or send LATCH eCards this Christmas

A recent study has found that the popularity of Christmas cards has declined consistently over the past few decades, so much so that over a quarter of UK adults will not put pen to paper this festive season, while nearly two thirds admit that they now send fewer cards than they did ten years ago.

It seems that social media has now taken the place of card giving, with a whopping 52 per cent admitting that these days they wish their friends and family ‘Merry Christmas’ via social media or messaging apps.

We at LATCH have been noticing this trend for some time, and have been humbled in early January with the appearance of an ever-growing number of donations for the amount people would once have spent on festive greetings cards.

To move with the times, this year we’re launching an Alternative Christmas Card Fundraiser and inviting people to donate the cost of a pack of cards instead of buying them.

We’re also thrilled to be members of DontSendMeaCard.Com which allows you to send eCards with a donation of the cost of the cards – it’s simple to do and that way you can cover both angles – a donation comes to LATCH and you get to send an eCard with very little time and effort.

If, like many of us here, you still enjoy sending actual cards, however, we still have a large stock of LATCH Christmas Cards which were painted by children on treatment, which you can purchase here.

Jade Morgan, LATCH General Manager, commented: “We’re so excited to see how successful these new initiatives are, as we know just how popular making a donation to worthy local causes is for our supporters. The fact that every single penny goes direct to LATCH with no money spent on production and postage makes this a win win for me – just don’t call me a Grinch if you don’t get a card from me this year!”

She continued: “Once we’ve cleared our stock room of older cards, we’re sure to launch new ones for 2020 – we love getting messy with the paints on Rainbow Ward! The innovative use of eCards and a simple online donation, however, means we can hopefully make everyone happy this festive season.”

Your donation won’t tie you into regular giving or annoying marketing emails, and an amount as small as £3.50 (the cost of ten cards) can make a huge difference supporting families of a child with cancer or leukaemia.
