Emyr Owen

Emyr Owen
Emyr Owen is an inspiration. Emyr was a fit, active boy who loved many things, but mainly his family, friends and rugby. In May 2008 Emyr was admitted to the Children’s Cancer Ward in the University Hospital of Wales where he was diagnosed with cancer. Emyr was extremely brave and courageous throughout many operations and many gruelling courses of chemotherapy.
His family was supported by LATCH during his treatment and Emyr spoke of wanting to repay LATCH for the help and kindness they showed towards him and his family. Emyr sadly passed away in August 2009, aged 12.
His family now run the Emyr Owen branch of LATCH, based in Porthcawl.
Pigs in Space

Emyr's 'Pigs in Space' book
Emyr’s courage and humour in his long fight against cancer is helping others face the same battle today, His character was expressed in a delightful story he wrote called Pigs in Space. It tells the adventures of Bacon and Sausage. It has been LATCH’s privilege to publish the story as a book, illustrated by the Deputy Head of Emyr’s school, and there has been a huge public response with many thousands of copies sold already.
Inside the front cover Emyr wrote a dedication:
“LATCH Welsh Children’s Cancer Charity has provided mine and other families with so much help and support and I truly hope that the money raised from this book will assist them in continuing their excellent work.”
Pigs in Space costs £5.00 and is available in English or Welsh from LATCH. Please contact us, or visit the LATCH shop to buy it online.
