LATCH Ball 2009
LATCH Welsh Children's Cancer Charity annual ball, held at the Angel Hotel in Cardiff on 30 November 2009, was a huge success and raised a stunning £33,500 in one evening. The event, which featured an auction to raise money to help LATCH's work supporting children with cancer and leukaemia in Wales, was attended by LATCH supporter Joe Calzaghe and his Strictly Come Dancing partner Kristina Rihanoff.
Highlights of the bidding included £1,500 for a training session with the undefeated, two-weight world champion Calzaghe and three winning bids of £1,200 for dancing lessons with Kristina. Other incredibly generous donations included £5,000 for a first-class holiday to Dubai given by Value Added Travel.
High street chemist chain Boots pledged an extra £10,000 and made LATCH their official charity in Wales for 2010 while Calzaghe - who has already given LATCH £65,000 in the last twelve months - successfully bid for a diamond necklace which he presented to a delighted Kristina.
The event was also supported by the Queens Dragoon Guards and the Welsh Guards who attended in full dress uniform and performed a piece of music specially written for the occasion. The party continued long into the night and was thoroughly enjoyed by all who attended.
