A sparkling evening to celebrate our special 40th anniversary!

As we near the end of 2023, the year marking LATCH’s 40th anniversary, we were delighted to complete our celebrations recently with a special 40th Tribute Dinner, kindly hosted by Howell’s School in Llandaff, Cardiff.

The Tribute Dinner, held on Friday, 24 November, saw over 100 guests enjoying an evening of entertainment, tributes and presentations, reflecting the past four decades of LATCH’s integral work as a charity providing support to children with cancer and their families in Wales.

Guests included representatives from Cardiff and Vale University Hospital’s clinical and management teams, the charity’s families, branches, volunteers, fundraisers and supporters over the years. Two of LATCH’s former patients, Sophie Sabit and Kiera Hodges, kindly participated too, with Kiera singing and Sophie speaking about her experiences of LATCH’s support services and fundraising for our charity.

A highlight of the evening was the Chair of the Board, Susan Gwyer-Roberts DL, presenting President, Judge Philip Price KC, with an award for his longstanding significant contribution to LATCH over the past four decades. Judge Price was previously the Chair of the Board for a number of years before latterly being appointed to the honorary role of President.

The focus of the evening was to pay tribute to, and thank all those who have contributed to LATCH Welsh Children’s Cancer Charity since it was founded back in the early 1980s.

We are very grateful to all of the Tribute Dinner sponsors who helped us to make the evening possible. We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to Howell’s School for their fantastic support of LATCH at this event, and throughout 2023.

Lastly, we would like to thank guests for supporting the raffle and silent auction on the evening and a big thank you to the businesses and individuals who kindly donated such wonderful prizes for the fundraising activities. We’re delighted to say that the event raised £8,000 (net profit) for LATCH.

The evening ended with the whole room singing ‘happy birthday’, with a specially made 40th birthday cake lit in celebration – a moment to be remembered.
