Emyr Owen Pigs In Space

In May 2008, Emyr Owen was admitted to the Children’s Cancer Ward in the University Hospital of Wales where he was diagnosed with cancer. Emyr was extremely brave and courageous throughout many operations and many gruelling courses of chemotherapy.

His family was supported by LATCH during his treatment and Emyr spoke of wanting to repay LATCH for the help and kindness they showed towards him and his family. Emyr sadly passed away in August 2009, aged 12.

His family now run the Emyr Owen branch of LATCH, based in Porthcawl.

Emyr was a fit, active boy who loved many things, but mainly his family, friends and rugby. Emyr’s courage and humour in his long fight against cancer is helping others face the same battle today, His character was expressed in a delightful story he wrote called Pigs in Space. It tells the adventures of Bacon and Sausage. It has been LATCH’s privilege to publish the story as a book, illustrated by the Deputy Head of Emyr’s school, and there has been a huge public response with many thousands of copies sold already.
