Coed Tir George: A Healing Space for Bereaved Familes

Coed Tir George: A Healing Space for Bereaved Families Launching on The Black Mountain, Brecon Beacons National Park

Coed Tir George, a visionary Project to support bereaved families, coming to terms with the loss of a child.  A Community Interest Company (CIC)  nestled at the foot of the majestic Black Mountain in Upper Brynamman, Carmarthenshire, on the edge of the Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park. This initiative will provide woodland accommodation, offering a tranquil retreat designed to provide spaces for healing and harmony and is set to open its doors in February 2026.

The project is being set up by Liz and Andrew Baker, who established Coed Tir George following the heart-wrenching loss of their son, George, to cancer in 2009. Inspired by their experience and the invaluable support received from LATCH – Welsh Children’s Cancer Charity, the Bakers aim to create a haven for families who have faced similar tragedies.

“We want to provide a safe and healing space for every family who has lost a child to cancer,” Liz Baker shared. “Our mission is to ensure that those grieving can find comfort and connection to nature away from their everyday lives.”

Coed Tir George will create a lodge in a serene environment conducive to reflection and healing. The picturesque surroundings of Ty’r Cwm Farm, a working farm with a rich history dating back to the 1800s, sets the stage for this transformative experience. The farm is also home to The Baker’s Pig, a family-run business contributing to the community.

The Bakers invite the public to participate in making this project a reality, seeking support through donations, expertise, and volunteering. The project’s focus will be on providing vital support to bereaved families.

“The importance of such retreats cannot be overstated,” Andrew Baker emphasized. “After our time at the Sand Rose Project in Cornwall, we saw firsthand how critical these spaces are for healing. We want to replicate that supportive environment here on the farm and eventually expand to create a network of healing retreats across the country.”

For those interested in supporting this heartfelt initiative, Coed Tir George has launched a fundraising page where donations can be made, and information on other ways to get involved is available. The Bakers are also open to collaborating with others interested in establishing similar farm retreats, aiming to build a community focused on healing and support.

As Coed Tir George progresses, it stands as a beacon of hope and solace for families wrestling with grief, embodying the spirit of unity, compassion, and healing in the wake of loss.
