We are excited to announce the appointment of two new members to LATCH’s Board of Trustees.
Mrs Sally Davis, recently retired Principal of Howell’s School, Cardiff and Dr Helen Rees, Consultant Paediatric Oncologist at Bristol Royal Hospital for Children, have joined the Board this month.
Trustees have legal responsibility for a charity’s management and administration, and are ultimately responsible for the governance and strategic direction of the organisation.
Susan Gwyer-Roberts DL, LATCH Chair of Trustees said: “On behalf of the Board I am delighted to welcome Sally and Helen as new Trustees of LATCH Welsh Children’s Cancer Charity.
They bring a wealth of skills and experience to the charity, across several different disciplines. I am confident they will contribute significantly towards the future development and continued success of the charity.”
Sally Davis retired last month after 33 years at Howell’s School.
Sally was appointed as Deputy Principal of Howell’s School in 1991 and after sixteen years she was made Principal. Howell’s is part of the Girls’ Day School Trust (GDST) which is a group of 26 girls’ schools who educate over 20,000 girls in the United Kingdom, with Howell’s being the only school in Wales. During this time, Sally was the Lead Head for several years and sat on various committees at the Trust, regularly contributing to the strategic direction of the organisation.
Sally is also a Trustee of the Friends of Llandaff Cathedral and a Governor of Cardiff and Vale College.
Dr Helen Rees is a Consultant Paediatric Oncologist at Bristol Royal Hospital for Children, qualifying from Guys Hospital in 1991.
After initially doing some adult medicine, Helen moved to paediatrics where she started her general training in North London. Helen’s Paediatric Oncology training was also centred in London, University College London Hospitals (UCLH), Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) and The Royal Marsden Hospital in Sutton.
Helen completed a PhD at the Institute of Child Health, whilst continuing to work clinically at GOSH and then relocated to Bristol, starting work as a consultant in 2007. Helen is also an Executive Committee Member of the The Children and Young People’s Cancer Association (CCLG)
Congratulations to both!
