LATCH Newsletter

A very warm welcome to the all new newsletter from LATCH! We know just how important it is to keep in touch with our supporters, and we hope that this new newsletter will be a great way for us to keep you in the know.

This is the first issue of what we hope will be many, and our aim will be to adapt and improve the newsletter so that we can give you as much recent news and updates on future events as we can. We hope you like the layout and content of this new format.

LATCH and the Corona Virus

We are doing everything we can to ensure that the service our LATCH families have come to rely on, remain in place now, and in the future.
Your support of LATCH is more important now than ever before, not only so that we are able to to continue delivering our crucial services at this time, but also to ensure that we are still able to be here when all this is over.

LATCH Launches Rainbow Ward Upgrade Campaign

Following consultation with stakeholders at every level of the Children’s Hospital for Wales, state of the art plans for the ward have been drawn up which include the creation of extra single-unit beds to give back families’ dignity and privacy and to enable the ward to cope better with infections and the regular need to have a child placed in isolation. Plus, a new, large playroom is planned, with a family room directly opposite to enable families to completely break away from the stresses and strains of the ward.

This December, we’re so thrilled to share that Ceri Hogg has commenced the newly created role of Early Phase Clinical Research Nurse Specialist in paediatric oncology/haematology which is sponsored by LATCH.

LATCH Commits to iPads for Patients Project for 2020

LATCH Welsh Children’s Cancer Charity is pleased to commit to the iPads for Patients Project throughout 2020, with an individual device being given to all children on active treatment for cancer or leukaemia and who LATCH is helping to support.

Brave Fourteen Year Old Receives Pioneering Treatment for Brain Tumours in Germany

A fourteen year old from Burry Port has returned from Germany following successful Proton Beam Therapy to treat four brain tumours, following a lengthy fight for a diagnosis.

LATCH Welcomes New Young Ambassador, Amira

We’re pleased to announce the appointment of our youngest Ambassador yet – Amira Barry, aged seven from Maesteg. Amira was diagnosed with leukaemia back in July 2018 and, like all families of children receiving treatment for cancer and leukaemia at the Children’s Hospital for Wales, her family are currently being supported by LATCH Welsh Children’s Cancer Charity.
